This Beginner Level Ukulele course, teaches:

  • The components that make a ukulele
  • The history of the ukulele;
  • Positioning to play the ukulele;
  • The notes and strings of the ukulele
  • Basic chords used to play the ukulele
  • Strumming techniques
  • Some well-known songs to play.

Over 4 workshop sessions the ukulele will become a favourite pastime, with participants playing a song or two within the first session!   Having a good knowledge of the instrument will allow all to explore and innovate – both of which are fun either as soloist or as a group.

All participants will be eligible to join the Monaro Ukulele Group Symphony (MUGS) for public performances and ongoing networking sessions.

Gabi Forman is a young natural ukulele player with her first recording being released before the workshop series.  Kelvin Fahey has been playing ukulele for 40 years having studied music from the age of 8 years.  Both have a genuine passion for music and sharing knowledge with others, so well placed to run these workshop sessions.

If you have a ukulele then bring it along, if not you can borrow one of ours during the workshop sessions.  We can also recommend suitable ukulele models for your consideration.

The Workshop $20 fee covers membership of the Nimmitabel School of Arts for public Liability insurance cover during the workshops and for public performances over the ensuing year.  The full cost of the Ukulele Workshop sessions is covered by a grant from the Boco Rock Community Enhancement Fund for whch we are very grateful.
